Upcoming Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Trainings

It all started with a private message on Facebook.  In 2012, the very first Arugaan peer counsellor training for mothers was held and organised in my home city of Davao.  Since then, Arugaan has trained several more peer counsellors, including my office's Peer Mom group - in Metro Manila and Cebu.

Although 2013 - with WABA theme - Breastfeeding Support: Close to Mothers - is ending, Arugaan is busy in the first quarter of the year conducting peer counsellor trainings in Davao City, Cagayan de Oro and Bacolod City.

I am very happy that Mommy Sense, a breastfeeding support group spearheaded by Alex Hao in my hometown, is very active in all aspects of breastfeeding - promotion, protection and support.  To support next year's training, they have organised a Mandala shirt sale:
Proceeds from the shirt sale will be used to fund the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor training:
You can read more details about the training in this event page.  Arugaan will also be bringing its Complementary Feeding seminar in Davao City:
I previously shared what to expect during this seminar here.  I'm a staunch advocate of not letting milk be a meal for toddlers and kids.  Milk is a beverage AND once the child hits 12 months old - there is no need to give formula milk to them.  You can read more about that in my comprehensive post here.

If you're in Iloilo or Bacolod, Arugaan will also be flying there to conduct a breastfeeding peer counsellor training:
You can read more about the event here.

Meanwhile, Cagayan de Oro moms can get in touch with Mommy Bright Side for the Cagayan de Oro training which will be held on February 3 - 4, 2014.

I'm really excited that more and more mothers are empowered and trained to help their kababayans. I truly believe that this is the sustainable way of supporting breastfeeding.  Sometimes, mothers just need someone local to talk to, to encourage them to continue on.   I already had a post about how to become a breastfeeding peer counsellor.  If you are in Visayas/Mindanao, this is your chance to get trained.  If you're in Metro Manila, stay tuned - a LATCH training is to be organised in the first quarter of next year as well.
