Join the Nurture Run for Breastfeeding + Giveaway

Last week, I attended the Bloggers for Breastfeeding event at Recess by Chef Chris.  The event was to promote the upcoming run for breastfeeding - Nurture Run 2014 spearheaded by Beauty Brains and Breastfeeding.   More details in the poster below:

The event started with this short clip from UNICEF China which I would also like to share with you.

While breastfeeding is natural and normal, commercialisation has made us believe that it is anything but natural for human beings.  One of the goals of the Nurture Run is to increase awareness of the reality that breastmilk is the best milk and formula milk is not even second best.

BBB's Iza Abeja shared about her own breastfeeding story and how she started BBB.  Meanwhile, UNICEF's Henry Mdebwe talked about the limitations they experienced on the field - limited resources, limited skilled counsellors who could help the mothers in the community affected by the emergencies.  One of the goals of the Nurture Run is to raise funds to mobilize skilled support from mothers that have undergone proper counselling to provide local support in times of emergencies.

Breastfriend and future LATCHer Kate Demetrio represented the National Nutrition Council and shared why it is important to breastfeed in times of emergencies.  Kate focused on the guidelines on infant and young child feeding during emergencies.  To know more about IYCF-E, click this link.

NurtureRun will also help raise funds to sustain mother support groups that are currently existing within the community.  It also hopes to organize more awareness activities like milk letting days to support the existing milk banks.

The Nurture Run is set on April 13, 2014 Sunday from 5:30 am to 10:00 am at the Quezon Memorial Circle. It covers 3km and 5km options with race kits costing PHP 450.00 inclusive of the race bib and Nurture Run shirt. The event is co-presented by UNICEF, International Labour Organization (ILO), National Nutrition Cluster group for Haiyan/Yolanda and Department of Health (DOH) in coordination with venue-host the Quezon City Government.

I received a race kit for myself and Stan.  However, I will be in Davao that weekend and won't be able to join the Nurture Run.  So I'm raffling off our race kit to a COANM reader and her partner.  Please don't join if you don't intend to join the activity on April 13, 2014.  The winner will get 2 race kits/bibs (t-shirt sizes are Gray Large and Pink Medium) plus 1 mug.   Open only to residents of Metro Manila.  Giveaway will end on Wednesday 2 April 2014.  Winner will be announced shortly thereafter.  You can join via Rafflecopter below.

Meanwhile, if you want to register for the race already and can't wait for this giveaway to end, preregister and sign up at http://www.beautybrainsandbreastfeeding.com/
